SMP Healing Process and Aftercare

Posted by Mary Shoufield on

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a minimally invasive procedure that involves depositing pigment into the upper dermis of the scalp to mimic the appearance of shaved hair follicles. The healing process typically follows a predictable timeline.

Initial Healing

Immediately after the procedure, the scalp may appear red and slightly swollen. There may also be some scabbing or flaking. This is a normal part of the healing process and should subside within a few days.

Scabbing and Flaking

Scabs and flaking are common during the first week or two after SMP. It's important to resist the urge to pick or scratch at the scabs, as this can lead to scarring or infection.

 Color Development

As the scabs and flaking subside, the implanted pigment will begin to reveal itself. The color may appear slightly darker initially but will gradually settle into its final hue. This process can take several weeks.

Complete Healing

Most individuals will experience complete healing within 2-4 weeks. Following proper aftercare instructions, such as avoiding sun exposure and using gentle cleansers, can help promote healing.

However, the final results may not be fully visible until a few months after the procedure.

Limit Physical Activity

Restrict strenuous physical activity for a few days following the procedure. Excessive sweating can irritate the scalp and interfere with healing.

Avoid Swimming, Sauna

Refrain from swimming for at least a week to reduce the risk of infection and irritation. Avoid hot showers, saunas, or steam rooms for several days. Extreme temperatures can cause swelling and discomfort.

Moisturize Regularly

Keep your scalp hydrated by applying a gentle moisturizer. This can help prevent dryness and irritation. DermMicro scalp aftercare kit has everything you need to look after your post-SMP scalp care.

Scalp Aftercare Package

The Scalp Aftercare package from DermMicro provides essential products and instructions for optimal healing and maintenance following a scalp micropigmentation procedure. It includes:

Restore Ointment

A soothing ointment designed to heal the skin and reduce irritation or redness.

Cleanse Shampoo

A gentle shampoo formulated to cleanse the scalp without disrupting the healing process.

Restore Lotion

A hydrating lotion that helps to moisturize the scalp and maintain its health.

Zero Shine

A sample of Zero Shine, a mattifying solution that can help reduce shine and oiliness on the scalp. It can be particularly beneficial for individuals with oily or greasy hair, as it helps to absorb excess oil and create a more matte finish. Zero Shine is often used in conjunction with other scalp care products, such as shampoos and conditioners, to achieve a desired level of shine control.

How To Use Zero Shine?

Instructions to use Zero Shine as an anti-shine solution are aptly clear. Apply #1 Restore Ointment to the treated area immediately after the procedure. Use #2 Cleanse Shampoo to gently wash your scalp every other day during the first week.

After the first week, apply #3 Restore Lotion daily to keep your scalp hydrated.

Use Zero Shine as needed to reduce shine and oiliness.

By following these instructions, you can help ensure a smooth healing process and maintain the results of your scalp micropigmentation procedure.
