SMP Treatment and Care

Posted by Mary Shoufield on

Does SMP treatment work for everyone? Scalp micropigmentation is meant to hide baldness, scars, thinning hair, and a receding hairline. It works for both men and women, giving them the look of a fuller-looking head of hair. With SMP, you will feel more confident. It will help restore your self-esteem.

Who Is a Candidate for SMP?

People with alopecia, thinning hair, pattern baldness, and those undergoing cancer treatment or chemotherapy are candidates of scalp micropigmentation. Those who have undergone a hair transplant may also want to opt for scalp micropigmentation to hide the surgery scar.

With SMP, bald patches look dense while thinning hair look stronger. The best scalp artist has undergone training and experience to color match your hair follicles. Their objective is to reduce the visibility of scars by creating small follicle deposits that match the skin and hair color.

Preparing for the Procedure

There are a few pre-SMP instructions to follow. While some procedures require shaving, others do not. Your SMP artist will give you instructions before beginning the treatment. They will advise you to eat a proper meal before the procedure.

The procedure

During the treatment, the scalp artist places microdots in the outer layer using special SMP pigment and pen. The idea is to create a look of buzz-cut or a stippling pattern that creates the effect of follicles. A client with scars on their scalp may be a good candidate for SMP. The procedure introduces colors into the scars so they can blend with the scalp and matches the natural skin tone. Scalp micropigmentation is the job of experts and involves a high degree of precision and detail.

First session

During the first session, the scalp artist focuses on creating the foundation for the new look. A micro needle places the pigment in the outer layer of the skin. During the first 4 days, follow SMP aftercare tips. Do not touch or shave the treated area for a week to 10 days. Also, it is in your best interest to stay away from direct sunlight or swimming pool. The idea is to avoid contact of your scalp with water and keep it clean and dry. You should also practice restraint from sauna, hot tubs, and steam rooms, which make you sweat. Even the use of moisturizer and shampoo is best avoided during the initial days of treatment.

Top SMP practitioners advise clients to gently rinse their scalp with cold water and mild soap on the fifth day. Start moisturizing your scalp to prevent excessive dryness and flaking. All in all, you want to keep your hair short or shaved to retain the SMP look.

Long-Term Care

Although you do not need a lot of SMP aftercare, a little amount of care is necessary to keep the look you had always desired. Use the best-quality SPF sunblock before stepping out in the sun. if you expose your scalp to direct sunlight, there is a risk of fading.

DermMicro Scalp Aftercare package comes complete with a cleansing shampoo, healing ointment, lotion, and a mattifying solution to keep that shine away. The kit includes a healing ointment that helps heal the skin quickly after the procedure and keeps redness away.
